Thousands of visitors come to central Nebraska for the annual Sandhill crane migration. As a result of research by the University of Nebraska Rural Initiative in collaboration with the Nebraska Nature and Visitor Center, a sampling of some of the many attractions in the region has been developed. In 2010 the University of Nebraska Rural Initiative Director, Sandy Scofield, and staff members Randy Cantrell, Rural Sociologist, and Connie Francis, Educator and Tourism Specialist, designed and conducted a survey of crane migration visitors to determine what other activities they would enjoy doing during their visit. Nebraska Bed and Breakfasts: Business Practices and Innkeeper Motivations
The intent of the study by Connie Francis, University of Nebraska Rural Initiative and Cheryl Burkhart-Kriesel, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension was to gain a better understanding of the management issues of bed and breakfast (B&B) businesses in Nebraska and the motivations that prompted residents to establish this type of entrepreneurial enterprise.
